Belize celebrates a public and bank holiday on March 9th annually to commemorate a benefactor named Baron Edward Ernest Victor Bliss from Portugal who willed his substantial fortune to the people of Belize upon his death when he visited the Belize Harbor in his yacht, fell sick and died before coming ashore.

The temperature on Caye Caulker today is 77 degrees F. This is considered by many to be unusually cooler than normal. Nevertheless the weather is great for snorkeling and other watersports.

Many Iguanas are resident on this island and their diet is all vegetation and more. Therefore all gardening has been fenced off to keep them out.

Two German girls visited for some hours today asking permission to use the hotel’s games room . They played mostly table tennis and seemed to be good at it.

We took a net to the pier today around mid-morning in search of jacks, mutton snappers and ballyhoo, but were not as lucky as the previous occasion. We have to try an earlier hout.

A small Cessna aircraft flew over Caye Caulker around 6:30 am. It appears like someone taking flying lessons since it did not land and the first scheduled flight normally arrives on this island at 7:10 am.

Some friends from England visited us today. They enjoyed swimming at the Belize Odyssey Resort pier. They also enjoyed the games room and the childrens park on our hotel grounds. They had a great time and promised to recomend the hotel to their friends back home.

Earlier we had planted sweet peppers and tomatoes on the hotel property and these appear to be growing healthy and are also getting ready to have fruit. It rained briefly for about ten minutes at dawn this morning so there is no need to water these plants today.

Some Italians visited the hotel for information about room details and nightly room rates. Last night there were many parties on this island and at midnight there were fireworks bringing in the New Year 2009.

The hotel manager started a green vegetable garden on the hotel grounds by planting some sweet peppers and tomatoes and these are growing rapidly. Belize Odyssey Resort is one of the best Belize hotels.

This morning we caught nine blue runner jacks at the Belize Odyssey Resort pier. Four are on the grill at this moment getting ready for lunch. There was a light drizzle briefly this morning but the weather is comfortable with blue sunny skies.

The temperature is a cool 79 degrees F. due to a mild Northerly wind.
The Osprey birds resident on our hotel grounds spent today on top of the Childrens park swings. They appear to be tame as we passed near to them about 15 feet away and they did not fly away.

We found a land turtle on the hotel grounds today. We gave it water and green vegetables and it seems to be happily walking around in the hotel’s games room. It does not try to escape through the open doorways.

Today we had some foreign and local visitors. Many foreign travelers telephoned and emailed today requesting availability of accommodations and reserving rooms for their December and January vacations.

We planted tomatoes and green bell peppers about 60 days ago and today the first sweet pepper appeared. Some of the leaves appear to be eaten on three of the fourteen plants. We are trying some mild repelant to get rid of what appears to be ants eating some leaves.

We caught some fish and grilled them for lunch today – four blue runner jacks and 4 gray snappers.

We searched for fish at the hotel’s pier today but only saw some ballyhoo. This type of fish looks like needle fish and are used for trolling for big game-fish beyond the reef nearby. The wind and currents are blowing in from the South-east and was not as clear as usual due to strong currents an lots of sea weed.

The temperature is warmer today at a very comfortable 81 degrees. The sun is bright and warm.
Visitors appear to be arriving in increasing numbers on the on Caye Caulker.

The temperature here today is around 75 degrees.
We went boating today.
We checked some lobster traps and fished for a short while.
We returned around 5:00 pm with some red snappers and lobsters.
These were prepared for supper on an outdoor wood grill.
Seafood can not be any fresher than this.
It rained briefly for around 10 minutes just before dusk today.

The weather today felt like 70 degrees last night.
We walked around the white sandy beaches of Caye Caulker today, visited some relatives and went grocery shopping.

The temperature here last night was cooler than normal at 66 degrees F. according to the Belize Weather Bureau.
Three osprey birds constructed a nest on top of the lamp pole at the gate entrance to Belize Odyssey Resort. Many birdwatching tourists stop by the hotel to take photos or look at these interesting birds feeding on fish.
We are expecting some visitors from Florida and Nicaragua to arrive at the hotel today.

The weather on Caye Caulker is cooler than usual today at 74 degrees F. It is normally 80 + degrees.
This is a mild cold front that is blowing into Belize from the North. Nevertheless the sun is still shining brightly and the sky is blue with a few white clouds. This is uncomfortable weather for residents of this island who dive for lobsters and other seafood unless they use wetsuits.
