DIVE THE MAIN BARRIER REEF AND ATOLLS 

Dive the world-famous BLUE HOLE at Lighthouse Reef Atoll – one of the four atolls of this hemisphere.  Three of these atolls are located in Belize’s Territorial Waters – Lighthouse, Turneffe, and Glovers Atolls.

This is a full-day, three-tank, boat-diving trip that you will enjoy.       Please feel free to bring along any of your favorite or personal diving gear such as snorkel, mask, regulator.

The price mentioned below includes all diving equipment, boat, fuel, captain, qualified divemaster/instructor, licenced tour guide,  breakfaast, lunch & drinking water to complete three tank dives at Lighthouse Reef Atoll including the Blue Hole.

A fast comfortable 2 hour boatride takes you past Turneffe Atoll directly to Lighthouse Reef for three of the most spectacular dives of your life.

The first and deepest dive occurs at the famous BLUE HOLE for about 8 minutes duration at about t 130 feet, with around 6 minutes bottom time.  You will use diving lights and may get to see huge massive stalactites hanging from the ceiling of the Blue Hole as well as some marine life. 

A surface interval is spent on Half Moon Caye where divers take a break and get an opportunity to visit the hundreds of rare red-footed booby bird nesting sancuary on tree-tops on Half-Moon Caye while divers are off-gassing in preparation for the next dive.

The Second Dive is a Wall Dive just off  Half Moon Caye situated south of the Blue Hole to about 90 feet.  Here you get to see a huge wall of all kinds of coral in natural color with lots of fish and other marine life in the wild.

Another surface interval is spent having lunch on the beach on Half-Moon Caye. 

The Third Dive is another Wall Dive just off Long Caye west of Half Moon Caye to about 60 feet.  All kinds of marine wildlife abound in these wall diving locations like natural underwater aquariums in the wild.  This is not to mention great varieties of all kinds of underwater corals gardens.  These areas are considered among the best wall dives in the world.

After the third tank, your diveboat returns to Caye Caulker where you disembark at around 4:30 to 5:00 pm.

The BLUE HOLE of Belize has been researched by the famous French Explorer and scuba pioneer Jacques Costeau. It is the highlight of any scuba diver’s visit to Belize and has been the most popular and sought after diving trip for many decades by scuba divers.

TEMPLE OF MASONRY ALTERS AT ALTUN HA MAYA SITE

This Maya site is the nearest to Belize City at about 31 miles away. Archeologists excavated and restored this site extensively between 1964 and 1978 to discover that it was a major trading center between the Caribbean and the Interior with two main plazas consisting of thirteen temples arranged in a pleasant park like atmosphere. The largest structure is the best preserved and known as B-4 or Temple of the Masonry Alters where the largest jade carvings of the Maya Civilization were discovered. The site also features discoveries of many tombs, ancient burial paraphernalia of the Maya, and carved obsidian blades traceable directly to Teotihuacan in central Mexico. Strangely, no carved stelae were ever located at this significant site.

ITINERARY:

6:30 am: This interesting journey into the Maya past commences by taking the 6:30 am water taxi boat from Caye Caulker to Belize City – a fast, 45 minute, scenic boat-ride in protected lagoon-like waters.

7:30 am: At the Marine Water Taxi Terminal, you board an air-conditioned coach for a one-hour ride to the Tower Hill Bridge in Orange Walk District.

9:00 am: At Tower Hill Bridge, you Board your riverboat for a one hour ride into the heart of the rainforest until arrival at the bank of the New River Lagoon a short distance from the Lamanai site. This important Maya site is set along the banks of the great New river Lagoon, an area that is home to howler and spider monkeys, iguana, crocodile and dozens of exotic bird species. This convenient riverboat access via the New River is therefore regarded a great tour in itself, and one of the major attractions of this wildlife/river/lagoon/Maya site/rainforest adventure.

10:00 am: Marvel at the architecture of this great ancient civilization as you disembark from the riverboat and walk along jungle paths under the canopy of the rainforest.

When the Spaniards first arrived in this area, they found the Maya community still occupying ancient Lamanai that is translated “submerged crocodile”, and found out that this site dated back to pre-classic times – therefore being one of the oldest occupied kingdoms of the Maya

The stone face of a Mayan deity looks mutely to the west on one temple, casting stone eyes on the setting sun. The tour circuit now takes guests through the rainforest right into the Lamanai Maya Site. Here you will see other plazas with temples reaching to the heavens – again, a reminder of the cosmological religion of this ancient civilization, that saw the creation of both the short (260 days) and the long count (365 days) calendars a couple thousand years ago by sacred shaman priest/scientists living and working in the rainforests of Meso America . Some handicraft shopping is available at the site, including t-shirts.

1:30 Noon: Lunch will be served at the site itself, under typical, authentic Maya thatch cabanas by the lagoon’s edge.

3:00 pm: After lunch, served under the thatch huts by the lagoon, board your riverboats for the water journey back to your tour bus, and then proceeding to Belize City.

5:30 pm Board the last daily scheduled water taxi to Caye Caulker at 5:30 pm.

6:15 Disembark your water taxi boat on Caye Caulker.
